Dental and oral care - have you given it much thought?

Dental health care has a set of building blocks - many of us skip a few steps here. But, we want you to remember, healthy teeth and gums can only be achieved by practicing the basics each day. And some of the basics have to be tackled more than once a day. It sounds like a lot, but trust us, keeping a healthy mouth is easier than trying to maintain a mouth that is riddled with problems.

You can develop a daily dental care routine! It’s easier than you think! It also takes less time than you think. If you are worried about boredom whilst tackling your oral care put on a netflix show, your favourite podcast or your favourite tunes.

Step One: Floss

This is probably ONE of the most skipped steps, but it is important not to do this. Flossing first allows you to remove food debris and dental plaque between the teeth. This then allows your toothpaste to bathe the interior surfaces of the teeth and battle the germs it needs to. If you are unable to use string floss there are metal dental picks, and hand held one use floss.

Step Two: Brush

Apply a pea-sized amount of toothpaste to your manual or power toothbrush and gently brush your teeth. Do not rush this process. You should be brushing for three minutes using small circular motions. Try and stay in one area of the mouth for at least 20 seconds at a time. It’s important to clean all surfaces of the teeth, especially at the interface between the tooth and gums. This is the area you just removed plaque and food debris from. It is primed for a good brush!

If you have bleeding gums it is a sign of inflammation and this is not normal. However, it’s ok. Things will improve. Keep flossing and brushing!! The gums should get healthier as you become more diligent in your routine. Healthy gums are pink, firm, and tight against the teeth. They also do not bleed when brushed.

Step Three: Tongue Scrape

Your tongue traps bacteria, toxins and dead cells. It is gross and it too needs to be dealt with daily. After flossing and brushing, stick your tongue out and gently scrape off all the gunk that has built up on it. Your tongue should be pink and healthy. It should not be dark. It should be covered in a layer of white or yellow gunk.

You will be surprised at how much better your food tastes after several days of using Gunkii! You will also be surprised at how much cleaner your mouth feels.

Step Four: Mouth Wash

Get the good stuff. The stuff that burns and you can feel that deep clean. Using Listerine is a great choice. Follow the directions on the bottle and bingo bango done-o!

Your mouth will thank you.
